Biyografi

Irfan Ahmad is a Senior Research Fellow at Max Planck Institute, Göttingen, Germany until 2022 and  currently a Professor of Sociology at Ibn Haldun University. He earned his doctorate (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam and previously taught at universities in the Netherlands and Australia. He is the author of two monographs: "Islamism and Democracy in India" (Princeton University Press, shortlisted for ICAS Book Prize for Best Study in Social Sciences) and "Religion As Critique: Islamic Critical Thinking from Mecca to the Marketplace" (University of North Carolina Press). He is the editor of "Anthropology and Ethnography are Not Equivalent" (Berghahn) and has co-edited three volumes on nationalism, democracy, and Europe. His writings have been translated into Arabic, Bangla, German, Malayalam, Portuguese, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu, and more.

2022'ye kadar Max Planck Enstitüsü, Göttingen, Almanya'da Kıdemli Araştırma Görevlisi olarak çalıştıktan sonra İbn Haldun Üniversitesi'nde Sosyoloji Profesörü olarak görev yapmaktadır. Doktorasını Amsterdam Üniversitesi'nden aldıktan sonra, daha önce Hollanda ve Avustralya'daki üniversitelerde dersler vermiştir. Islamism and Democracy in India ve Religion As Critique: Islamic Critical Thinking from Mecca to the Marketplace kitaplarının yazarıdır. Yazılarım Arapça, Bangla, Almanca, Malayalam, Portekizce, Tamilce, Türkçe, Urduca dillerine çevrildi.
